Saint Andrew’s Day

The Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle
Monday, December 1 | 6:30pm
Holy Eucharist Rite II, with Solemn Procession and the Sacrament of Confirmation

Join us Monday, December 1 at 6:30pm to commemorate the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle, patron of our parish.

This year, we are privileged to welcome Bishop Glenda Curry to celebrate the Eucharist and preach. She will also celebrate several confirmations and conclude the service with a blessing of the church's West Lawn, where Saint Joseph's House once stood. This truly is one of the most special days in the life of our parish, so we hope to see you then!

What is a patronal feast?

A patronal feast is a time for the church community to celebrate its namesake and give thanks for the legacy of faith that shapes our life together. The Feast of Saint Andrew calls us to reflect on the faithful witness of the first-called apostle, who followed Christ with courage and humility.

Tradition tells us that Saint Andrew was a fisherman by trade and the brother of Saint Peter. After hearing the call of Jesus, Andrew immediately left his nets to follow him, becoming one of his first disciples. Known for introducing others to Christ—including his own brother—Andrew’s life reminds us of the power of simple, faithful invitation.

Later, Andrew is said to have carried the Gospel to regions as far as Greece and Asia Minor, and he is believed to have been martyred on an X-shaped cross in the city of Patras. For centuries, he has been venerated as the patron saint of fishermen, Scotland, and our parish, among others.
