Red Door Arts Event

Saint Andrew’s will present a book reading and art show on Sunday September 28th at 5:00pm in the Nave. This event is sponsored by the Red Door Arts Guild.

Richard Berliner will read selections from his book, A Different Journey: Vietnam 1965-1973. It is a memoir in which he, as a young man, goes to Vietnam to find adventure in a place as unlike home as he could imagine. As an humanitarian aid volunteer and journalist, Berliner encountered the Vietnamese people in their homes, markets, and cafes. Conversant in Vietnamese, he was able to distill his experiences and, with colleagues at fledgling Dispatch News Service International, provide global media with first-hand accounts of how the war on the ground was impacting the people of Vietnam.

In the Nave will be an art show by Justin Banger.

Justin Banger is a daytime children’s librarian and is mostly asleep at nighttime. In the in-between times, he manages to follow the thread of creativity through drawing and writing poems.  Before earning a Masters in Library Science from the University of Alabama (2013), Justin received a BFA in printmaking and painting from the University of Montevallo (2008). Married to a therapist, father to two creative children and two amusing pugs, they all live together in a sixties home in Hoover, AL.

The Nave will be open before and after the concert for viewing of Justin’s work. Instead of a reception following the reading, we will have sparkling water, wine, and some treats to enjoy during the event. Berliner will have books for sale.

For the event, donations, as always, are welcome. Please join Saint Andrew’s for this intriguing afternoon of art.
