Advent Choral Evensong

Sunday, December 14 | 5:30pm
The Parish Choir will offer Advent service of Choral Evensong this Sunday, December 14th at 5:30 p.m., preceded by an organ prelude at 5:15 p.m.

For the Prelude, Saint Andrew's Organist and Choirmaster, Cody Lawyer, will play the third organ sonata (A major) by Felix Mendelssohn, a stately and unmistakably Mendelssohn sonata with four distinct movements. The canticles for Evensong — the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis— will be by Stanford’s setting in B flat major, a “battle-horse” setting that is fast and harmonically pleasing. The Parish Choir will sing the previously mentioned anthem by Mathias "Lift up your heads, O ye gates," Paul Manz’ "E’en so, Lord Jesus, quickly come," and we will sing two hymns to end our day with the remarkable service of Evensong.
