Commemorative Evensong

Solemn Choral Evensong of Remembrance
Join us this Sunday, September 21 for Solemn Choral Evensong at 5:30pm (Organ Prelude at 5:15pm), commemorating the first anniversary of the Five Points mass shooting.

This Sunday, Sept. 21 is the first anniversary of the Five Points mass shooting. We will gather for a liturgy of Solemn Choral Evensong, commemorating the four lives lost—Anitra R. J. Holloman, 21; Tahj Da’Jour Booker, 27;  Carlos De’Juan McCain, 27; and Roderick Lynn Patterson, 26—and pray for their families, friends, and all who grieve.

We will also remember before God the 17 others wounded that night, and all those in Birmingham and Jefferson County whose lives have been taken by gun violence in 2025.

Please join us for this service of prayer and song as we seek God’s healing for our city and for our hearts, and strength to meet the days ahead with devotion to the work of peacemaking and justice.

Collect for the Departed

Remember thy servants, O Lord, Anitra R. J. Holloman, Tahj Da’Jour Booker, Carlos De’Juan McCain, and Roderick Lynn Patterson, according to the favor which thou bearest unto thy people; and grant that, increasing in knowledge and love of thee, they may go from strength to strength in the life of perfect service in thy heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
