Saint Andrew’s Music Ministry & Red Door Arts
Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church Birmingham will present Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G on Sunday May 18th at 2:30 pm in the Nave,. This event is a collaboration between the Red Door Arts Guild and Saint Andrew’s Music.
Along with the Saint Andrew’s Choir, the work will feature guest soloists from UAB’s Music Faculty, Dr. Patrick Evans (baritone), and Dr. Meg Jackson (soprano), along with tenor Caleb Clark. Accompanying them will be Samford University’s String Quartet, led by Caroline Nordlund (viola) and Samuel Nordlund (cello) who serve on the Music Faculty at Samford University. Samford’s String Quartet will also play a short work by themselves in the performance. The entire piece is directed by Organist & Choirmaster Cody Lawyer.
In the Nave will also be an art show by Carolyn Goldsmith. Carolyn Goldsmith is a well-known Alabama artist, who we at Saint Andrew’s also know as The Rev. Rusty Goldsmith’s wife. Rusty served as our Interim Rector in 2013-14, and many of us got to know Carolyn. She was born in Gainesville Florida, and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and continued her studies in art at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; Huntington College; The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee; and The Art Institute of Chicago. We are thrilled to have her work on display in the Nave from May 18 through the end of June. The Nave will be open before and after the concert for viewing of the paintings.
For the event, there is a suggested donation of $10 but, of course, all are welcome. After the performance, we will have a reception in Trinity Commons for both the musicians and for the artist. Please join Saint Andrew’s for this festive event.
