Red Door Arts Event: New Stations of the Cross
Dear friends,
You are heartily invited to the blessing and consecration of our newly commissioned Stations of the Cross after the 10:30 am service this Sunday, February 22.
The Red Door Arts Guild will host a special coffee hour (generously provided by Barry and Robin Ousley) in Trinity Commons.
After getting a plate and a beverage, you can head back to the Nave with your food for the blessing of the Stations.
There are fourteen Stations, with two small paintings placed between the existing metal sconces of the Stations of the Cross around the church. The Red Door Arts Guild, under the direction of parishioners Rebecca and Jack Drake, commissioned Tim Denny to represent each of the fourteen scenes of the Stations of the Cross. Tim is a long-time member of Saint Mary’s-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church and spent most of his adulthood in the advertising business. After his retirement he began to paint, utilizing his college arts education and training.
In just the last few years, Tim’s paintings have been received by the arts community for the creative originality and masterful craftsmanship found in each work. Tim has artwork in many local collections as well as in the permanent collections of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Paul Jones Museum at the University of Alabama, and the Wiregrass Museum in Dothan.
Each Station is filled with energy and emotion. Denny made these paintings for us free of charge and did so as a part of his spiritual practice. He did extensive research both from a historical standpoint as well as a Biblical standpoint, and he asked God for guidance as he did this challenging work. The paintings are on wood panels, so please be careful not to touch them.
Please join us for this joyous event!
Peace,
Barbara Sloan
Chair of the Red Door Arts Guild
