From the Organist & Choirmaster

I do hope that you will make plans to join the parish choir on Sunday May 18th at 2:30 pm in the Nave as we present Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G major. We have the privilege of welcoming several collaborative musicians in addition to the already excellent choir we have. Accompanying the Mass will be Samford University’s String Quartet, a group of four string players who all serve on Samford’s School of the Arts faculty: Caroline Nordlund (violin), Lucy Dulguerov (violin), Rene Reder (viola), and Samuel Nordlund (cello). Schubert includes many solo parts. In this arrangement of the Mass, we will welcome Dr. Meg Jackson (soprano), Mr. Caleb Clark (tenor), and Dr. Patrick Evans (bass), to sing the various solos. All three soloists will sing the ‘Benedictus’ as a trio, one of my favorite movements of this particular Mass.

In addition to the Mass, the string quartet will play three pieces before the Schubert, those pieces are the following: Henry Purcell’s “Chaconne;” George Walker’s “Skit Dance” from his first string quartet; and W.A. Mozart’s “Molto Allegro” from his nineteenth string quartet in C Major.

Please do not miss this special concert that we are proud to present along with Red Door Arts!
