Catechism: An Outline of the Faith

This fall, we’ll gather on Sundays for an informal formation series exploring Catechism: An Outline of the Faith, the brief summary of Christian teaching found in the Book of Common Prayer. We’ll begin Sunday, October 4, and meet from 9:15–10:15 a.m. in Trinity Commons Student Center, between the morning Masses.

The Prayer Book Catechism is, in essence, a commentary on the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, presented in the traditional question and answer format. Its brevity makes it easy to consult, but its questions open onto some of the deepest and most enduring questions of Christian faith.

These conversations are for everyone, from an inquiring stranger who happens to pick up a Prayer Book to a lifelong Christian who has been saying the Creed for decades. No prior knowledge or preparation is required. Together, we’ll move through the Catechism section by section, asking what it says, what it means, and how it can shape the way we live, pray, and serve.

Along the way, we’ll explore questions of human nature, the Ten Commandments, the Old and New Covenants, the Trinity and Holy Scriptures, prayer and worship, the Sacraments, Christian hope, and much more.
